Must Experience Rural Tourism - Embrace Nature and Tradition

The next big trend in travel? Rural tourism. It's all about reconnecting with nature, getting back to our roots, and finding some peace and quiet.

Imagine waking up to the wonderful smell of fresh rain, the sound of a fire crackling in a clay pot, and the yummy scent of cooking curry. Picture the soft whispers of local women walking by, kids playing with anything they can find, wide-open fields as far as you can see, and a friendly, welcoming feeling all around. But what is rural tourism and why should you support it?

What is Rural Tourism?

Rural tourism is all about visiting the countryside to see how people live, learn about their art, culture, and history. It helps the local people by bringing in money and giving everyone a chance to meet and learn from each other.

The Tourism Ministry of India conducts competition for best rural tourism villages in India. Villages are awarded to promote and preserve their cultural heritage helping with sustainable development through tourism.

In the year 2023, the top 5 villages that received this award  are Dawar (Jammu and Kashmir), Sarmoli (Uttarakhand), Relek (Mizoram), Kanthalloor (Kerala) and Madla (Madhya Pradesh).

Other popular rural tourism destinations are -

Originating around 3000 BC, Warli art is a way of life for the Warli tribes from the mountainous and coastal regions. The intricate geometric patterns depicting flowers, wedding rituals, hunting scenes, and everyday activities are highly popular among fashion designers and home decor brands.

Tribal Life in Bishnoi Villages

Bishnoi villages are known for their wildlife and scenic landscapes. The Bishnoi people, straightforward and nature-loving, live simple yet fascinating lives. They welcome guests with warm hospitality and are known for their dedication to preventing deforestation.
